My experience

My experience in this class was very enjoyable and entertaining. At first I wasnt sure if I was going to enjoy it because I tend to not be thrilled into using cameras and making videos. I was allowed to use my imagination and make my videos into how ever I desired. I do reccomend anyone to take this class because it is very valueable and it teaches you numerous things. Thank you for everything you have taught me and guided me through the process of video making when I was new to this class!

Things I have learned

Various things I have learned taking this class and from reflecting off of other videos is shots and angles, sound effects, video effects, transitions, editing, always smiling:), a positive attitude and to work well as a team. Working together as a team helped me in various ways. Teamwork can build trust and it allows you to get the job done a lot quicker if you are determined to accomplish your goals. looking back at my own films, I have learned that ineed to be quicker with my transitions and that I need to have much more of a creative mind when I am brain-storming ideas for new videos. Making films has taught me that you are in charge of the way you want to make your vidoe and you can do it any way you want as long as it can be understood and it is clean. one thing that I have learned based on my films that I cannot demonstrate is to put more effects and audio into the films.

Reflection on my blog

Early this year, I learned the importance of creating films and determining the values of each video. you can see that in my first film, I didn't do this, especially in the scene when we did the over he shoulder video. At that point, i was still learning all of the instructions on how to make and edit my videos. On my second and third project, I learned how to incooperate special effects into my videos by usiong effect such as distortion and wave warp. The wave warp gave the effect as if something mysterious was going on during in film. Using the effects has helped me in many ways. It helped me in The Water is Wide video because a lot of the scenes were intended to be sbstarct so by using the effects I could make the picture into something new and represent a new meaning. later in the year, i showed that I had really grasped the concept of using adobe premiere as well as many effects inside of this program. Collaborationg with other people while making my videos as well as just in a regular basis in the class gave me inspiration to do things differently in my videos in a better way.I enjoyed working with other people because they would give me different hints on what to do and they helped my level of understanding with using Adobe Premiere better. Also, working with other people helped me in the process of making my videos because when they would teach me something new, I could relate to the way they were telling me how to change things because I was always looking for a better and enjoyable way to make my videos more entertaining. I was proud of my star video because I learned how to make the video all in my own. With the help of classmates teaching me houw to use Adobe Premiere, I could make video exciting by adding effects to the video.

Final Video

My goodbyes film is allowing students to tell any one of the faculty members thank you foranything that they have done for them or that they appreciate about them. The film portrays a very positive and sincere effect!

Abstract Video

1) In the beginning of the fil, there is a princess who is waiting in the woods alone for her prince to come and pick her up.While she waits. she sees her prince from far away.As he gets to her, he picks her up on his horse and rides off. The two of them now are going to the princess' castle where her parenst live.The prince and princesss are there to ask for permission to get married.The dad does not approve so the begin to get upset and storm out of the castle. The prince and princess do not go by what the parenst say about them getting married. A Towards the end of the film, the prince and princess get married and live happily ever after. 2) The pictures that I am most proud of are the clips when the climax starts to build up and the tension between the parents and the princess & prince get heated. 1 min. 30 sec. to 2 min. 20 sec. is when the plot of the story begins to change. theeffect of the anger was a red image which portrayed that the climax was getting upbeat and uprising. Ashley and I were trying to evoke the tone as being a very exciting part at this time in the story. 3) About 40 percent of our film was had an abstract effect. The part in the story that I liked the most that dealt with abstract was when the parents faces were moving and the clip was abstract. we ahd a consistent idea about using the colors of the abstract shapes because the abstract shapes portrayed a calm mood. 4) Using abstract images, I realized that the images had an effect that the film was going to be a different and unique film. 5) The interactions of the music and the images blended very well together. Atfirst it was hard trying to get the timing down with the pictures but overall we did a good job finishing it . 6) The most important contribution my partner made to the film was being a good team member and we worked very well together. I enjoyed working with Ashley because she works efficiently and she is very creative upon her ideas. 7) the most important contribution I made to the film was working well with ashley and when she neede something I was there to hepl her.

Special Effects

1: For the first effect I used the "wave warp". This effect is located under the folder called "distort". I then changed the vertical rate to 0 and the vertical width to 54 to emphasize the motion more. This is found under the "effect controls".  You could use this effect in a movie if someone is dazing off or when someone gets dizzy the room could be spinning in their head.

2: The second effect I used was the "bend " effect. This effect is located under the folder called " distort". I then changed the  wave width to 36 and the wave height to 46 to give the impression that the scene of the film was moving like the waves in an ocean. This is found under the " effect controls". You could use this effect when you are trying to convey the message that someone is underwater maybe or thay are moving slowly.

Jabberwocky Video

The effect that we used that worked best was the " Bend Effect" I think this effect was the best one because it gave a mysterious effect the the swords. We were trying to convey the message of something that is happening with the sword as if someone used it to murder another character. The idea that we were trying to get across was a very intense and violent idea.

I noticed that there was alot of work just to make a small video. Much thought had to be put in just to come up with the ideas for the video.
Putting the directors cut video was rather easy because it was just our raw ideas and process we had to go through. The only process we left out of our directors cut was the actual filming because we would have to record us filming our movie which would be really hard. We also left out some group conversations we had while we were editing because of the crunch on time.

I think people should pick my video because it is comical and informative.

Reflection
 1.  My group and I planned our shots by first looking at the script and realizing that certain shots need to be made based upon the mood and tone of the scene. When Jacob and I were talking in the film, the camear would go back and forth on over-the-shoulder shot. In the beginning of the film we needed a long shot to show the surroundings of where the film was going to be taken.

2. Most  of the scenes in this film did not follow the rule of thirds because when we place a grid on the scene, there is no direct object placed into one of the squares. Next time, we could adjust the camera to make sure th at we do follow the rule of thirds.

3. The over the shoulder shots create a very one on one impression of the character because you can look at the detail of the characters face. this works by having on character facing the camera; it will only show the back of someone's head.

4. The dialogue ine the final edit was sort of realistic. You can tell that it was hard to act when everything is scripted and you had to follow the lines correctly. The challenges I had when I edited the film was trying to decide when to switch the over the  shoulder shots from character to character because sometimes each character would take a longer break than one so it would be difficult to find a stopping point.

5. For the most part the dominant mood in the film is happy/excited. This explains the mood because I was telling Jacob that his Great Aunt left him some money and who wouldnt be happy if someone found out they were given money for no reason? We accomplished this by having the mood be happy throughout the film because there needed to be no mood change till the end.

6. When using the over the shoulder shots, the person who is facing away from the camera is takingup a good amount of the camer with their head. The reason for this is because the camera is basically on their shoulder behind them and the camera is trying to capture both objects at the same time. Using the over the should shots is good in some cases bacause it can identify the mood in the scene and also show how the characters are reacting to it.

REFLECTION 1) What value are you trying to represent? - In our video we're representing sharing as our value. 2) What do you think your group has done well? - I think that our group has put ideas together well and decided how to combine them to improve our video. 3) What do you still need to complete? - We need to add the eding of the video as well as the voice over. 4) What are you most in need of feedback about? (We want to know if..., We're wondering if this camera angle worked when...etc.) - We want to know if we got the point of sharing easily understood in our video. 5) Identify a challenge your group discovered and faced in creating the film. Focus on a challenge about how to best tell your story. Describe how you dealt with that challenge, including discussions you had, things you tried and decided to leave out, and what you ultimately did to address it. - One challenged we faced was that not everyone on our group was in the film. we dealt with this situation by continuing to film with a different set up. This post is from Morgan and Jacob. The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from Chris and Brad and Michaela and Cole. (Two different posts, not a pair saying one thing). Chris and Brad told us that we should make the credits larger and more centered, and that was helpful because we did need to make the credits bigger and more centered. In addition Michaela and Cole told us that we could add more dialogue, and that helped us see that our video was good the way it was. The two best suggestions we got were from Kelsey and Kaycee (again, two suggestions from different posts, a pair saying one thing). Kelsey and Kaycee suggested that we find a way to fix the pizza disappearing in the sunlight. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to add special effects. Michaela C and Ashley T suggested that we shorten the fade out at the end of the fighting clip. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to shorten the fade out at the end of the fighting clip. POSITIVE COMMENTS: Brad and Chris: We especially like the close-up shot of the pizza, because it helped emphasize the idea that it was important. What we liked best was the use of the house as a background and the edits. The credits were good because they were rolling. Michaela C and Ashley T: We especially like the pan-over of the pizza and table at the beginning of the video because is helped emphasize the idea of the last piece of pizza. The first piece of music fit well because it was calm and light-hearted, a friendly scene. Michaela and Cole: We especially like the close up shot of john on the floor because helped emphasize that they had just fought. BEST SUGGESTIONS: CHRIS AND BRAD: You could have added more talking between the two You could also make the fight last longer. You could also add another character. Feedback Michaela c and Ashley T The conflict was between him eating the pizza he had won off his friend or giving it to his hungery sister. The shots that contributed to the rising action was the medium close- up of jake and john about to fight also the part were jake slaps john's hand away it was a close-up of the last piece of pizza The climax was when john gave the pizza over to Morgan During the resolution John and Jake express that they are still friends with the playful back and forth conversation. We especially like the pan-over of the pizza and table at the beginning of the video because is helped emphasize the idea of the last peice of pizza. we rated your editing a 8. We would just suggest shortening the fade-out clip after the fight. The first piece of music fit well because it was calm and light-hearted, a friendly scene. Then the vinyl scratching and the fighting music fit really well too. The most important audio was the vinyl scratching. It completely changed the tone of the scene in a dramatic way. No titles, but we noticed in the credits that the music you used wasn't credited. Overall, we thought your film was very good, and we can tell you worked really hard for this video. You could add to the resolution by showing some more facial expression, this would help us see how they feel about giving/recieving the pizza. CAMERA SHOTS: We especially like the close-up shot of the pizza, bacuase it helped emphasize the idea that it was important. We think you should replace the shot where you hold up the pizza so it doesent get lost in the sunlight. The new shot would be the same as before but change the lighting in it. EDITS: We rate the editing a 8. One edit we would change would be the edit when morgan walked into the room. We noticed that between the first and second shot you used a straight cut we would of used a fade to black in this instance. USE OF MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS: There was no music in this video. The most important use of the sound effects in this video was when you used the "fatality" words after the fight. TITLES AND CREDITS: The title reflected the content because it was about pizza and it said pizza in the title. I would make the title even bigger and centered. The credits were good because they were rolling. But the sound was not cited correctly. OVERALL- Overall, We thought your film was good. What we liked best was the use of the house as a background and the edits. Our strongest suggestion is that you cite your sources because you can get into trouble for that. The shots that contributed to the rising action was the pan of the messy table and the last piece of pizza. We also liked the close up of the hand slap. You dont really need to add anything. The climax occured when the hand was slapped, and when they fight over the pizza. The resolution is when the guy gives the girl the pizza. We especially liked the pan in the beginning of the table, and at the end of the guy on the floor. We also like the close up of both guys when they are confused about hearing the voice, and the high angle of them looking around the room. On a scale of 1-10, we rate the editing a 9.5. We thought when the screen went black between the argument and when jacob is holding the pizza was dramatic and effective. The music was worked well in the beginning when they were watching tv; it created a laid back feeling. The music when the guys start yelling at each other was most effective because it helped emphasise the tension. We really liked the "deep voice" toward the end of the black screen. The credits and the title were really good and everything was properly cited/put together. Overall we thought your film was amazing. We liked everything.
